Single-phase power uses one electrical phase, whereas three-phase power distributes the load across three phases and is better suited to higher-powered equipment.

The correct supply will depend on the specific heater you choose, so the heater's electrical requirements should always be checked before installation.

The floor beneath and immediately around the stove may also require suitable non-combustible protection, particularly where there is a risk of embers or hot material falling from the stove.

A suitable chimney and flue system must be installed to safely carry smoke and combustion gases outside the sauna. Where the flue passes through the roof, the correct insulated chimney components, roof flashing and heat-resistant protection should be used.

Correct ventilation is also important. A wood-fired stove requires an adequate supply of combustion air, while the sauna itself needs sufficient airflow to provide fresh air, circulate heat and allow moisture to escape.

When choosing the position of an outdoor wood-fired sauna, you should also consider where the chimney will discharge in relation to your house, neighbouring properties, windows, boundaries and outdoor seating areas.

Any applicable local requirements should be checked before installation, particularly where chimney positioning, smoke control or other restrictions may apply.

With an attached shower, this sauna has a couple of extra things to think about beyond standard log sauna upkeep. Check the shower fitting and any exposed pipework periodically for leaks or loose joints, since water finding its way into the timber structure is more of a risk here than on a sauna without plumbing attached. After each use, let both the heat room and the shower area air out fully, propping doors open for twenty to thirty minutes so moisture doesn't linger in either space.

Inside the heat room itself, wipe benches down after each session and give the interior a light sand once or twice a year wherever hands and bare skin make the most contact. Leave the timber unsealed, since sauna wood needs to breathe and absorb moisture rather than sit under a coating. Glass surfaces, if your model has windows, just need a standard glass cleaner and a soft cloth.

Externally, the spruce log exterior needs a wood treatment reapplied every two to three years, with the shower side likely needing slightly more frequent attention given its additional exposure to standing water. Check that water from the shower drains away properly rather than pooling against the base of the structure, which is the single biggest risk to the longevity of any outdoor timber building. Keep the whole area clear of fallen leaves and debris, particularly around the shower drain, so water has somewhere to go after every use.
