A generously sized barrel sauna that comfortably handles both quiet personal sessions and larger group gatherings removes the need to compromise between two different use cases. The core physiological benefits of sauna bathing, improved circulation, reduced muscle tension, a cardiovascular effect comparable to light exercise, apply consistently whether the sauna is being used by one person or a full group of five or six, and having genuine flexibility in capacity supports more consistent overall use across different occasions.

For households who entertain regularly but don't want a sauna that only really works well for large groups, this size's generosity matters precisely because it doesn't force a trade-off. A couple can use the space comfortably on a quiet evening without it feeling oversized or impersonal, while the same sauna handles a proper gathering without anyone feeling cramped, which a more tightly sized model built specifically for personal use simply couldn't manage.

The social benefits of group sauna bathing, the relaxed, unhurried environment that naturally encourages genuine conversation, become readily accessible whenever a larger group does join, without requiring advance planning around whether the sauna can actually accommodate everyone. That flexibility tends to support more spontaneous, regular use across varying group sizes, which over time contributes to building the kind of consistent sauna habit that delivers the most meaningful long-term wellbeing benefits.
Delivered flat-packed for self-assembly, with free UK mainland delivery on qualifying orders. The larger Cube format requires a little more assembly time than the smaller Icon models, so we recommend allowing a weekend and having a second person to help. A solid, level base and suitable delivery access are required.

For a complete setup, select Professional Installation and choose your preferred date, allowing for the stated production lead time. We’ll then arrange the installation around your requirements, including any additional preparation or works needed to accommodate your sauna where possible.

Electric sauna heaters require a suitable dedicated electrical supply and are not simply plug-and-play. The power requirements depend on the heater's output and the electrical supply available at the property.

Smaller heaters may be suitable for a 230V single-phase supply, while larger or more powerful heaters can require a 400V three-phase supply. Single-phase power uses one electrical phase, whereas three-phase power distributes the load across three phases and is better suited to higher-powered equipment.

The correct supply will depend on the specific heater you choose, so the heater's electrical requirements should always be checked before installation.

Sauna heaters will normally need to be hard-wired into a correctly rated dedicated circuit with the appropriate cable, isolation and electrical protection. They should not be connected using a standard household plug or extension lead.

The final electrical connection should be completed by a suitably qualified electrician in accordance with the heater manufacturer's instructions and applicable electrical regulations. This is important for both safety and reliable operation of the heater.

If you're based in the Leicestershire area, we can arrange the electrical installation of your sauna heater for an additional fee. Please speak to our team if you'd like this included with your sauna.

Wood-fired sauna heaters do not require an electrical supply for heating, but they do require the correct installation of the stove, chimney, flue and surrounding heat protection.

The stove must be positioned according to the manufacturer's required safety distances from timber walls, benches and other combustible materials. Depending on the stove and sauna design, suitable heat shields or other non-combustible protection may also be required.

The floor beneath and immediately around the stove may also require suitable non-combustible protection, particularly where there is a risk of embers or hot material falling from the stove.

A suitable chimney and flue system must be installed to safely carry smoke and combustion gases outside the sauna. Where the flue passes through the roof, the correct insulated chimney components, roof flashing and heat-resistant protection should be used.

Correct ventilation is also important. A wood-fired stove requires an adequate supply of combustion air, while the sauna itself needs sufficient airflow to provide fresh air, circulate heat and allow moisture to escape.

When choosing the position of an outdoor wood-fired sauna, you should also consider where the chimney will discharge in relation to your house, neighbouring properties, windows, boundaries and outdoor seating areas.

Any applicable local requirements should be checked before installation, particularly where chimney positioning, smoke control or other restrictions may apply.

The Sauna 280 needs the same fundamental barrel sauna care as the rest of the range, simply across a larger surface area given its generous length. After every session, leave the door open for twenty to thirty minutes to let the heat room dry out fully, preventing mould and dark staining on timber surfaces over time. Wipe benches down once cooled, and sand the interior lightly once or twice a year wherever group use creates the most contact wear.

The window needs only a standard glass cleaner and soft cloth. Given the larger structure, check the door seal and general fit periodically, particularly during the first year as the sauna settles in fully.

Externally, treat the curved Thermowood exterior with a wood treatment every two to three years, budgeting proportionally more time for this larger structure than smaller models in the range. Keep the base clear of debris and standing water along the full extended footprint, checking drainage carefully given the greater length of timber in contact with the ground.
This sauna comes with a 5 year warranty for residential use and 2 years for commercial use, covering structural timber, glazing, and hardware. Valid claims are assessed case by case, and we'll supply replacement parts wherever possible rather than the whole sauna.
Production takes 10-12 weeks, plus 1-2 weeks dispatch time for pallet haulage. This sauna is delivered flat packed unless otherwise stated. Free UK mainland shipping applies to orders over £500 covering up to one double pallet (2.4m x 1.2m x 2.2m) or two single pallets (1.2m x 1.2m x 2.2m). If your order exceeds this due to length, weight, or quantity, additional pallet charges may apply and are quoted separately based on postcode. Please have a solid base, clear access, and suitable unloading space ready before delivery, with help on site if needed. Pallet deliveries are kerbside only, and you're responsible for moving goods onto your property.

Barrel Sauna 280 — Thermowood Garden Sauna for Bigger Groups, 2.8m — thermowood — lifestyle photo 2

Generously sized for whoever joins

Sauna 280 extends the standard barrel range to 280 centimetres in length, keeping the same 230 centimetre diameter as the smaller 220 and 250 versions while giving genuinely substantial interior room for larger groups. Solid Thermowood construction throughout provides the thermal mass needed to perform reliably at this larger scale, holding heat efficiently even with more people inside generating additional humidity and heat loss through regular door use.

At this length, Sauna 280 suits households who entertain regularly or simply want a sauna sized generously enough that it never feels tight regardless of how many people join a particular session. The barrel format continues to distribute heat evenly throughout the curved interior, an advantage that becomes even more noticeable at this larger scale where flatter walled structures can sometimes develop uneven hot and cold zones.

Sauna 280 suits anyone wanting a properly generous standard barrel sauna without yet moving into the largest sizes or the deluxe finishes found elsewhere in the range, delivering genuine group capacity at a sensible mid to large point within the overall barrel sauna lineup. It tends to be the size households settle on once they know sauna sessions will regularly include more than just the immediate family, with enough room that nobody ever feels like the session is one person too crowded.
