Sauna Eero pairs a dedicated sauna room with practical changing and circulation space in a substantial rectangular log cabin, entered under a sheltered overhang. External footprint 224x367cm (8.2m²) with 70mm walls and a pitched roof rising to 253cm. Outside door 80x201cm, an internal bronze glass sauna door at 70x190cm, and two 60x60cm double glazed windows. Sauna benches and an insulated roof element over the sauna room (12mm boards, 50mm ISOVER insulation, 12mm boards) are included. 26mm floor boards and 19mm roof boards; roof covering not included.

Separating the changing space from the heat room does something quietly useful for how often a sauna actually gets used. When robes, towels and conversation have somewhere to live, sessions start faster and end less abruptly, and the core benefits of regular sauna bathing, improved circulation, reduced muscle tension and a cardiovascular response comparable to light exercise, depend far more on consistency than on any single long session.

At 8.2 square metres across two rooms, Eero is sized for a household that saunas together rather than in turns. Long term studies of regular sauna bathers consistently associate frequent use with better cardiovascular markers, and frequency is largely a practical question: how much friction sits between deciding to have a sauna and being in one. A sheltered entrance, somewhere dry to leave clothes and a heat room that stays hot because nobody is holding its door open all remove a little of that friction.

There is a social dimension too, which the Nordic and Baltic sauna traditions have never treated as incidental. A cabin with room for five or six people, and a second room for the ones who have stepped out to cool down, encourages the sauna to become an evening rather than a task. That unhurried quality is a large part of why the habit tends to stick, and a habit that sticks is the only kind that delivers anything.

The stove must be positioned according to the manufacturer's required safety distances from timber walls, benches and other combustible materials. Depending on the stove and sauna design, suitable heat shields or other non-combustible protection may also be required.

The floor beneath and immediately around the stove may also require suitable non-combustible protection, particularly where there is a risk of embers or hot material falling from the stove.

A suitable chimney and flue system must be installed to safely carry smoke and combustion gases outside the sauna. Where the flue passes through the roof, the correct insulated chimney components, roof flashing and heat-resistant protection should be used.

Correct ventilation is also important. A wood-fired stove requires an adequate supply of combustion air, while the sauna itself needs sufficient airflow to provide fresh air, circulate heat and allow moisture to escape.

When choosing the position of an outdoor wood-fired sauna, you should also consider where the chimney will discharge in relation to your house, neighbouring properties, windows, boundaries and outdoor seating areas.

Any applicable local requirements should be checked before installation, particularly where chimney positioning, smoke control or other restrictions may apply.

A two room log sauna needs its two rooms looked after differently, which is the only real departure from standard spruce cabin care. After each session, prop the bronze glass door open for twenty to thirty minutes so moisture can leave the heat room properly; this single habit prevents more mould and dark staining than anything else you can do. Wipe the benches down once they have cooled, and give the interior a light sand once or twice a year wherever hands, backs and feet make the most contact.

The changing room is unheated, so it dries far more slowly than the heat room and is worth a periodic check, particularly through winter when wet robes and towels tend to be left hanging in it. Keep it ventilated rather than sealed, and don't let damp fabric live in there between sessions. The bronze glass door needs nothing more than a standard glass cleaner and a soft cloth; avoid anything abrasive that would dull the tint.

Externally, the 70 millimetre spruce needs a wood treatment reapplied every two to three years, sooner on south and west facing elevations. The pitched roof helps here by throwing water clear of the walls, but check that it is actually landing somewhere sensible rather than pooling against the lowest log courses, and keep the base clear of leaves. The overhang above the entrance is worth a look each autumn too, since it is the part of the roof that catches the most debris.

A deep two room cabin built around the weather

Eero is a rectangular log sauna built at 8.2 square metres, with a 224 by 367 centimetre footprint that runs deep rather than wide, and solid 70 millimetre spruce walls throughout. The pitched roof rises to 253 centimetres at the ridge on an 18 degree slope, carrying 17 square metres of roof area and projecting forward over the entrance so the doorway itself sits under cover. Two 60 by 60 centimetre double glazed windows bring daylight into the cabin without handing the whole interior over to the garden, which matters more on a sauna than it does on a garden room.

What justifies the footprint is the layout rather than the floor area on its own. An outer door at 80 by 201 centimetres opens into changing and circulation space, and a bronze glass door at 70 by 190 centimetres closes the heat room off behind it, so towels, robes and the general traffic of people arriving and leaving stay out of the room that is doing the work. The roof over the sauna room is built as an insulated element, 12 millimetre boards over 50 millimetres of ISOVER insulation over a further 12 millimetres of board, which keeps the heat in the room rather than in the roof void. Sauna benches and 26 millimetre floor boards are included; the 19 millimetre roof boards are supplied but the weatherproof covering over them is chosen separately.

The pitched roofline is the reason most people choose this version over the flat roofed Eero. It reads as a garden building rather than a garden structure, which tends to sit more comfortably against older brick, mature planting and existing outbuildings than a flat profile does, and it sheds rain and leaf litter without much thought. The deep, narrow proportions suit a long garden or a run alongside a boundary better than a wide open lawn, where a broader model would look more at home. Self assembly follows the same numbered panel system as the rest of the log sauna range, which is a couple of weekends of steady work rather than a single ambitious Saturday.
